Popular Sights in Spetses island

• The port and the square of Dapia it was the old
emplacement (there are canons until today) and the place of gathering of lords and captains during the Revolution.
The museum of Spetses is housed at the mansion house of Hatzigianni Mexi, one of the most powerful lords of the island during the Revolution. The two-floor mansion house was built during 1795-1798.
At the exhibits of the museum are included ceramic of the proto-Helladic (3rd millennium B.C.) and of later periods, sculptures and coins of roman and Byzantine years, post- Byzantine pictures, canonicals and other church objects of everyday use, as well as heirlooms of the battles: the flag of he Revolution, the bones of Bouboulina, weapons and portraits of fighters from Spetses, paintings of ships and figure heads, historical documents and others.
The mansion house of Soterios Anargyros: is two-floor, built with stones, with neoclassical morphological elements, that was constructed in 1903-1904 as the residence of SAnargyros, the national benefactor and benefactor of Spetses.

Bouboulina’s Museum. The Museum was founded in 1991 . A non-profit making company manages all the Museum income, and has as its main objective the repair and maintenance of the building and its use as a museum and cultural centre, whilst at the same time recounting the story of the Greek War of Independence with emphasis on the life of the heroine Laskarina Bouboulina.
HOW TO GET TO OUR ISLAND
By sea:
From Kosta ( Pelloponese) you can reach Spetses by:
ferry-boat: 4 crossings daily (7.15 - 10.00 - 13.00 - 16.30 from Spetses and 8.00 - 10.30 -
13.20 - 17.00, from Kosta).
From Piraeus harbour, at Akti Tselepi:
Gate D, (Tel. 210 4117341)
Departure each morning at 8.00 of the liner ferry-boat which returns at noon from Spetses.
Duration of the trip: 4h30, with call at each island of the Saronic Gulf on the way to Spetses.
Cars owners should contact the Municipality of Spetses for the relevant regulations before boarding their car.

By car:
There are to possible itineraries:
Traveling from Athens, or central or northern Greece, you must cross the Strait of Corinth, follow the road to Epidaure, pass trough Kranidi and Porto-Heli to reach the small peninsula of Kosta. There is also a regular regional bus connection from Athens to Kosta. Information can be obtained at the central bus station, Blvd Kifissou 100, Athens, Tel. 210 5134588
When traveling in the Peloponnese area, you will reach Kosta through Nafplio (Nauplia) and Ligourio, taking the highway Patras-Corinth. There is also a regular bus connection between Nafplio-Kranidi-Kosta.
!!! REMEMBER:
Private cars are prohibited on the island of Spestes, and the use of all other vehicles, including motor bicycles, are subject to municipal and prefectoral regulations for which you must obtain information in time. |
