DVD RW Discs
|
The fantastic, re usable and durable DVD-RW disc; developed by Pioneer in Nov 1999 is a rewritable optical disc with equivalent storage capacity to a DVD-R usually up to 4.7GB.
DVD RW discs are a great invention, playable in about 75% of DVD players and able to be re written up to 1000 times before needing replacement, although more costly than DVD R they are ideal for those who want to record on a temporary basis and then move on to the next show, movie, file, data storage, etc.
The main advantage of DVD-RW as opposed to DVD-R is the ability to erase and then rewrite to a DVD-RW disc. DVD-RWs are mainly used for important but potentially volatile data, such as collections of files or to back up temporary data such as work storage which may need to be backed up daily.
Could prove cost effective if on small budget as a single disk could last 1000 working days or about two and a half years.
A major benefit of using a rewritable disc is in the event of any writing errors when recording data, the disc is still usable and can still store data by deleting the damaged data.
An outline for dual-layer DVD-RW discs with a capacity of 8.5 GB was developed. However industry support for rewritable dual-layer discs did not come to fruition due to costs as well competition from more advanced and higher storage capacity formats like HD DVD and Blu-ray.
DVD RW is still an excellent form of media for the price, even in the face of stiff competition from Blu Ray, HD DVD and high capacity memory sticks.
Offering potentially superb long term value for money, disks potentially re usable daily for over 2 years, if on a tight budget or want exceptional value for money invest in some DVD RW discs today. |
