The use of canopies in London

Canopies have a variety of uses in cities as well as in rural areas. One particular use in cities is that where there is an absence of a garage a canopy can be erected in order to form a carport. The canopy will serve to keep the weather of the car and allow for a you to drive a clean car. Additionally the canopy will prevent the sun from fading the paintwork of a car thus preventing extremely expensive respray work.

This is an example of a canopy that is fixed and will be built from rigid materials, but there is growing call for free standing canopies that can be set up in gardens for parties etc. Unlike an awning which needs a wall to secure itself against a canopy is normally free standing and will be secured by four poles in the four corners and maybe supported by a central pole. It will normally have no sides, as its function is to keep the sun of people who are eating and drinking in the open.

They are entirely portable and come in various sizes, thus you may establish one in your back garden, or pack one up and take it to Hampstead Heath where you can enjoy your picnic. It may be that your are holding your daughter’s weeding in your back garden and the food needs to be protected from the elements. The use of a canopy will allow for this but will still allow the guests to be able take their selection without having to push their way through the canvas doors that mark so many marquees which have been traditionally used on these occasions.

If you have no grass to pitch the canopy then there is no need to concern yourself as the poles can be designed with flat feet and these will then stand on a concrete base. Whereas with the more traditional canopy guy ropes will secure the canopy weights can be placed on these feet and the canopy will be secure should strong winds occur.

Many regattas take place on the Thames so a canopy is a good way of enjoying this in comfort. Set out the blanket on the ground, put up the canopy, keep cool and watch the rowing boats go down the river while you relax in comfort.
