Rig Safety

Being safe at sea isn’t just about training your staff in the right way. Everything from the offshore doors you use through to the processes you undertake within your company are going to make a major difference to how safe both your staff and your costly investments are.

When it comes to items such as watertight doors, it is worth remembering that even if staff are not effected by incoming water, then expensive equipment or resources could well be. It is therefore vital to ensure that all areas of a rig have the right watertight doors and that they are not simply restricted to those areas that house personnel.

The sea is one of the most amazing, fascinating, but also temperamental aspects in all of nature. It offers a great deal for us in terms of potential and in terms of scope, but it also poses many dangers too. Once you have taken the risk of fire, flood and weather damage into account and bought your offshore doors accordingly, it is wise to place a great amount of focus on your staff. Not only do you need to ensure that they are up to the task at hand, but you also need to ensure that they are mentally prepared each and every time they are in charge of a certain task.

Keeping up morale at sea is therefore going to be extremely important and things as small as crew accommodation can make the difference between comfortable, rested personnel and those who may well cause accidents. Simply having their own space to blow off steam or have time to themselves can make a great deal of difference and there will need to be the option for a counterbalance between the stresses of the working day and the comfort of private relaxation.

The best safety plan will involve not only the very best rig and the safest doors, but also the safest staff too.
