The iPhone 4 To receive Instant Messaging In the Form Of iMessage

Despite having recently celebrated its first birthday the iPhone 4 from Apple remains one of the very best mobile handsets available. A great processor chip combined with a superb screen make this the handset of choice for many consumers. This coming autumn the release of the new version of the phones operating system will see over 200 improvements made to how the phone works and some people have even stated that iOS5 will make the iPhone 4 feel like a brand new phone. Two of the improvements are the new iMessage facility and the useful Reminders feature.

The iMessage feature is a new messaging feature designed to be used by anybody with a unit operating on the new iOS5 platform. This means that the service is not only restricted to people using an iPhone but also those using an iPad. The system works via either WiFi or 3G and enables the user to send free text messages to friends and family who are also running iOS5. This feature works in a very similar manner to Blackberry Messenger and a variety of third party applications that are available such as Whatsapp and Live Profile. Not only does iMessage allow you to send instant text but because it is incorporated in the phones Messages application it also enables the simple sending of voice memos, photographs and video footage. The group messaging feature enables you to hold a conversation with a number of your contacts at the same time which is something that may particularly appeal to the younger audience. Because the service is part of the operating system and not the device that you are using you can start a chat whilst you are on your travels on your iPhone 4 and continue it on your iPad 2 when you return home.

One aspect of the new operating system on the iPhone 4 that looks particularly useful is the new Reminder facility. This does everything that you would expect from it as it reminds you of appointments, shopping lists and general things that you need to do. One very good aspect of this new feature is that it is location based. A great example of how this could work is if you need to pick up a bottle of wine on your next visit to the supermarket. You can type in exactly what you need on the phone and set the supermarket as the location. The next time you pull into the supermarket car park the phone will alert you. This facility takes the traditional agenda facility a step further and could quickly become a widely used aspect of this new platform.

The new operating system for the iPhone 4 is available in the autumn and will be available for download via iTunes. What we have discussed briefly here are just two great improvements with hundreds more also present. The new iOS5 certainly looks exciting and effectively helps keep the iPhone 4 as one of the very best handsets available over the coming months.
