If you want to create a modern looking home, it is important to understand not only the styles that are currently in fashion, but also the colours. Whether you are decorating a brand new home or updating a new one, everything from the furniture you choose through to the layout of your rooms will have a major bearing on how successful you are at achieving the desired effect.
Currently, less is very much more, with not only larger open spaces being preferred, but also smaller contemporary furniture being favoured. Creating more space can be as simple as buying the right designer furniture, more efficient storage and removing a great deal of your own clutter, but it can also be achieved by knocking down adjoining walls and making the home far more open plan.
The current colours that will scream modern, both in decor and in terms of contemporary furniture will be black and white. As less is more in terms of physical presence, less will also be more in terms of colour and, the simpler your home is, the more complex it could actually end up looking.
The right lighting will also make a big difference. Modern lighting fixtures are not only beneficial in terms of style but also in terms of how they actually light the room, the best ones offering up illusions of space whilst simultaneously increasing safety too. Be sure that you pay attention to each and every room too as rooms that seem incongruous or anachronistic are bound to instantly spoil any illusion you might have created.
