How to Win at Blackjack and Video Poker
|
When you are playing Internet casino games, you should realize that you are basically playing games of chance, where luck is the most important factor in whether you win or lose. However, there are a pair of casino games where strategy can be used to help even the house odds in your favor - blackjack and video poker.
Of these two games, blackjack is the more popular among beginning and casual gamblers because it is so simple to learn. After all, the goal of the game is straightforward: try to get cards whose total value is 21 without going over. But achieving this simple objective without either getting busted (a card count that exceeds 21) or being beaten by the dealer can be tricky. Fortunately, you can easily locate strategy tables online which tell you the best move to make statistically based on the two cards you've been dealt (called your "hand"). Hands are classified into "soft" (one of your cards is an ace), "hard" (no ace) and pairs (both cards have the same value) and you will hit, stand, double or split depending on which hand you have.
The use of these tables is why it is more advantageous to play blackjack at online casinos - many land-based casinos will not allow you to use strategy tables. While these tables are not a magic wand that ensures you will win every hand, in the long run you will win more often than you lose and maybe walk away with a small profit.
Video poker is almost as popular among gamblers who want to play the game but don't want to play at a table against other players. Mixing features of both slot machines and table games, in video poker, you are dealt five cards. You can either stand or discard some or all of your cards. The payoff will be based on your final hand and how much you have wagered (you can usually bet from one to five coins). Apart from the basic game, there are many popular variations including Jacks or Better (in which payoffs start with hands which have a pair of Jacks) and Deuces Wild (in which the twos serve as wild cards which can stand for any card in the deck). Each of these variants has its own strategy table and you should use the correct one in order to even the house odds against you and win consistently over the long run.
The strategy tables basically determine how many cards you should discard depending on the hand you have. For example, if you're playing Jacks or Better, if you have a kicker card (an unpaired card held with a pair) you should discard it because it adds zero to your hand. On the other hand, with Deuces Wild, strategy depends on how many deuces you're holding. Unless you're holding a winning hand, you should discard all cards that are not a deuce. Keep in mind that these strategies are particular to the type of video poker game you're playing and will not work with other types of variants. |
