The Sports Rising in Popularity

It used to be that the most popular sports in Britain were very traditional games. From football to rugby, the sports most participated in were extremely consistent year in and year out.

However, today, far more people are looking to other sports and the most popular sports in terms of both spectators and participants are now a far more eclectic and diverse mix of the traditional and the very modern.

The biggest movers appear to be those sports that contain an element of danger or thrills, the extreme sports such as water sports, skateboarding and ice hockey. In fact, the fastest growing sport in the UK (and the world for that matter) in terms of both participating in and watching is Mixed Martial Arts, also one of the most dangerous.

For those looking to get into a new sport who are looking for one that is likely to only grow in popularity instead of decrease, then the extreme sports are probably the ones to look into first. One of the most flexible of these is possibly Ice Hockey. Fast paced, exciting and with a hint of danger for thrill seekers too, ice hockey has many different things going for it that many other extreme sports don’t: it is very much a team game, and the skills learnt can be applied to many other different things too.

A visit to an ice hockey shop is likely to be all you need to start off and from there the skills learnt can also often be transferred to inline skating, allowing a trip to a normal skate shop to offer you the ability to get into extreme skating too. An ice hockey shop will have everything you need to start off and the process of getting to a good level will be far easier than trying to train to be an Ultimate Fighter.

Ice hockey is also thrilling without the extreme danger that some other extreme sports can produce and therefore a trip to a skate shop can offer you a thrilling pastime without all the danger.
