When You Should Have Air Duct Cleaned

There are numerous reasons people decide to have a technician come out and clean their air ducts. Usually, this process is not a necessity; however, there are many reasons that you should not delay cleaning your ducts. These reasons include health issues in the family, and other problems such as pests. The following is a guide to help you determine if it is time to have your air ducts inspected.

First of all, regular cleaning of your air ducts is vital if there is a person in your home who suffers from severe allergies or asthma. When air ducts become dirty, dust particles are released into the home into the clean air. When a person is allergic to dust, it could bring on a terrible reaction; possibly an asthma attack. Ensuring your home is free from dust is important to keep your family healthy.

Another reason you should have regular air duct cleanings is if they are infested with vermin such as mice. Mice leave droppings in the ducts which could be responsible for spreading bacteria into your home. Not only should you have the ducts cleaned, you should call an exterminator as well to avoid future problems.

A more severe problem with home air ducts is mold. Mold is responsible for many illnesses every year. It is possible for mold to grow in the air ducts because conditions are usually favorable. Sometimes, mold can be viewed just by looking for it. Also, mold often grows around the outside of your air ducts and HVAC unit. A certified HVAC technician can help determine if there is mold growing in your air ducts or on other parts of your system. Often, mold is found with a simple, routine check; therefore, the problem is corrected before it gets out of hand.

When you schedule an appointment for your air ducts to be cleaned, it is important that you have proper maintenance performed on your HVAC system as well. The air ducts run hand in hand with your system; therefore, they both should be evaluated. If you suspect a problem with the air ducts in your home, call a technician right away before the problem gets worse.
