Hemel Hempstead charity event likely to be shown on TV

People with TV aerials in Hemel Hempstead, including those who have benefited from aerial repairs in Hemel Hempstead, may be able to watch a special charity event on their local TV this autumn.

The Hospice of St Francis is organising an adrenaline-fuelled fundraiser that will take place in September and will see volunteers abseil 100 feet down a one of the highest buildings in the area.

Those who take part in the event will lower themselves down the Dixons Retail headquarters in Maylands Avenue. In order to qualify, people must pay £25 and there is a minimum sponsorship requirement of £100.

Meanwhile, anyone who cannot make it to the building on the day but who has TV aerials in Hemel Hempstead may be able to catch highlights of the occasion on local news. Indeed, it might be worth engaging in any necessary aerial repairs in Hemel Hempstead prior to the day.

Commenting on the initiative, community fundraiser Emma Day said: "This is an amazing opportunity to set yourself a personal challenge whilst raising money for a fantastic local cause. If you have ever wanted to do something daring then now is the time to grasp the opportunity!"

She added: "Last year we hosted this event for the first time and were thrilled with the amount of people that took part. It raised more than £15,500 and this year we are hoping to smash that target!"

All the money raised will go towards helping patients and their families who are coping with life limiting illnesses.

The Hospice of St Francis provides care for individuals from Dacorum, St Albans, Harpenden, Markyate, Chesham, Amersham and the surrounding villages and in order to fulfil its aims, it has to raise over £3.5 million each year. This means it relies on a considerable amount of effective fundraising.
