Vegas: The place where time stands still.

There is no time in Las Vegas; time literally stands still. There are no clocks in casino land, just revolving buffets, a never-ending supply of drinks and frenzied gamblers.

The credit crunch has hit Las Vegas hard, with business travel and group booking at an all time low; travel companies and hoteliers are chomping at the bit for us to visit this crazy place. It would be rude of us not to except the invitation, right?

OK, so it’s not necessarily the top of the list for most holidaymakers due to the hedonistic environment and timeless culture, but with cheaper flights and bargain hotels, why not give Vegas a shot?

Even if you’re not planning on getting hitched, the wedding chapels are worth a visit, for novelty value alone. You may even get asked to be a witness for some drunken couple, after they’ve stumbled out of a neighbouring casino! If however you do want to tie the knot in Vegas, there are other options available. It’s not obligatory to have the wacky wedding, although, when in Rome!

There has to be more to Sin City though. Of course there is. Before you loose all your hard earned cash, take a stroll to the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art, where 1000 choreographed water jets light up this glitzy palace nightly. Then catch a ride on the free shuttle bus to the Liberace Museum. You’ll find it the most glam and surreal experience away from the main strip.

Families should also give Vegas a chance, with many hotels (located away from the strip) offering childcare, arcades, movie theatres and child friendly swimming pools. Most hotels for families are reasonably priced, however if you’ve got more cash to spend, the Four Seasons will customize your hotel room according to the age of your child.

Las Vegas also caters, quite unexpectedly, for the adventurous outdoor types.

Water enthusiasts can ride the waves at Lake Mead or head out to the Hoover Dam.

If you want to really push the boat out, a trip to the Grand Canyon is an experience not to be missed. With the money saved on the journey, why not treat yourself to a helicopetor ride, to really appreciate the view.

The classic stake is as much of a Vegas tradition as the Elvis wedding, and thankfully they are ten a penny. Of course you can go upscale and splurge, but there are some great steaks to be had for as little as $8.95. What a perfect opportunity to have a good much on a quintessential American dinner.

Flying time from London to Vegas is around 10 and a half hours and carriers fly from the majority of UK airports.
