Why are more UK employers using online psychometric tests?

With competition for jobs growing every day, more and more UK recruiters are looking towards using online psychometric tests and online aptitude tests to screen the hundreds of applications they receive for each advertised vacancy.

With up to 30 per cent more graduates applying for each role and with news of redundancies making the news every week, employers have had to have another look at their recruitment processes to deal with the increase in demand.

Using online psychometric tests and aptitude tests can help an employer screen through hundreds of applicants to whittle them down to those who have the most appropriate skills, attitude and character traits suitable for the advertised vacancy.

Besides the obvious benefits of employing online tests, there are also many other advantages for the recruiter. These may include but are not limited to the following:

• Using these tests ensures the candidates that are most suitable and able to carry out the specified job are able to progress on to the next stage of recruitment.
• When faced with hundreds of application forms or CVs, using online tests can help speed up the whole recruitment process as it can identify the most suitable candidates without having to look through hundreds of applications from unsuitable applicants.
• Candidates are being given the same chances to show their abilities and skills in the same way as others who have applied for the role. There are no right or wrong answers and it may even teach the candidate a little bit about the type of personality or worker they are and the best roles they are suited to.
• As using tests of this type helps screen candidates so only the most suitable are invited to the next interview stage, this will help save the company money as they can invite the most suitable candidates to one day of interviews rather than four days of interviews.
