Second-Hand Smoke Health Risks and Light Cigarettes, Exaggerate Finding

Tobacco Industry’s Criminal Censure should be Reviewed

State Government considers that tobacco companies every day receive what it calls “illegal profits.”

In general a new win for the government is likely to mean failure and bankruptcy for almost all tobacco companies.

Government officials asked the Supreme Court to examine again a banditry verdict against the tobacco companies to permit the penalties.

The main tobacco companies applied a demand for the Supreme Court to cancel the 2006 verdict.

For example nine tobacco makers and two traffic groups were sentenced of trying to trick the smoking public about the health dangers of cigarettes smoking through their advertisements. And also because they manipulated even nicotine levels in each cigarette and informed smokers that they would not become addicted.

“All these companies have manufactured and sold their smoking product with fervor, with fraud, with a one purpose to increase their financial profits and without any care for the human tragedy or social costs,” Judge Gladys Kessler of U.S. District Court in Washington declared.

As it is known cigarettes smoking are the main cause of the 400,000 deaths yearly. The judge also prohibited the companies from manufacturing their cigarettes as “low tar” or “light”, she added.

She explained also that they had used their scientific research for to make every aspect of a cigarette exactly custom-made to deliver the most favorable amount of nicotine for to produce and support smokers’ addiction.

The Justice Department requested the $280 billion when the investigation began under the Clinton administration in 1999. And if the Supreme Court opened again this case, then it could recovers the probability of the $280 billion fine, which cigarettes industry commentators explained could bankrupt the tobacco industry.

The tobacco companies argued that they were putted in use their First Amendment free conversation rights with their advertisements. The ads asked the science that showed the connection between addiction and tobacco smoking.

Anti-smoking researchers also declared that health risks from second-hand cigarettes smoke and low tar or light cigarettes were more exaggerated by those who criticized the tobacco industries.
