Delivering media across computer networks was, until quite recently, limited to non-streaming - where digital files were downloaded and then saved and played back via a CD-ROM or from the hard drive. However, since the end of the 1990s and into 2000, greater network bandwidth, increased access to the internet, the massive use of the internet as a commercial pathway, and vast technological improvements to the home computer, have meant that streaming media onto home computers is now commonplace and has enabled the avid films buffs amongst us to watch free online movies.
With the advancements in technology, such as wireless HD, there has also been increased demand for streaming high definition media content without the need for new networking cables. Now top quality movies can be streamed live, or on demand, through online movie sites to enable people to watch free films online - in high definition.
Online movie sites have huge stacks of archived films which they allow their customers to watch free of charge. These online sites act as a portal and allow customers to legally watch films online. All customers have to do is to find the movie they want to watch, decide on the quality of the copy, eg picture and loading speed, then click to watch. From there they will be redirected to a video site which hosts the movies. As well as enabling people to watch films online, websites also provide opportunities to watch free films and blog with other online movie fans. What these sites do not do is to maintain copies of the films, as this would contravene copyright regulations.
