Why Streetwear Has Never Been Cooler

Urban fashion was never necessarily about being cool. Whilst it has always been a great form of style, it started off as more of a way to express personality through clothing – a quite literal fashion statement. The range of different styles that the term ‘urban wear’ covered was, and still is, vast, yet today, whilst it still retains its credibility and its individuality, it also seems to be more widely worn, and wearing such clothing is now not just a statement of personality, but simply popular too. So why has this shift occurred?

There are many reasons for urban fashion shifting into a more mainstream fashion area. Firstly, with such a wide range of potential styles within the fashion the possibility for crossover has been great, and with the majority of the clothes within the style being extremely comfortable, it was only a matter of time before people started to wear the clothes for not just their looks, but also for their comfort.

On top of this, there is the fact that anything retro is now very much in fashion. Whilst the urban look might be very much current, it still has its roots in the 80s, a very popular fashion period at the moment. This means that whilst people who have embraced the look all along will still be wearing the modern garments, others will be bringing back modernised versions of classic hip hop looks, increasing the number of people who are wearing such clothes greatly.

So is streetwear cool? Well, whilst ‘cool’ itself is no longer such a cool word, the urban look is definitely in vogue, and with the loose clothing, now that summer has arrived, it will definitely be the coolest type of clothing in terms of heat. And that is just another reason urban wear is so popular today.
