It’s not just about the welfare of a beloved pet but those who let dogs get over weight by feeding them too much dog food and not giving them enough exercise could leave themselves open to legal action. Pet owners who refuse to put their seriously animals on a diet could be prosecuted under the Animal Welfare Act and this could involves fines of up to £20,000 or even 12 months' in prison.
You can tell if your dog is overweight but feeling its ribs with your fingers. If you can’t feel them under the flesh and fur your dog might need to lose some weight. |
