Urban wear given away in poker comp?

Hip hop clothing and urban wear may well have been among the garments given away recently as part of a charity initiative in the US. According to reports in the Independent Florida Alligator, a strip poker tournament saw items collected for St Francis House and Goodwill Industries International Inc.

Called Taking It All Off For Charity, the contest had around 80 participants. Among them was Garrett Kramer, who donated 20 shirts, four pairs of shorts and two pairs of jeans to Pledge 5 Foundation's poker charity drive.

The foundation is a non-profit group that arranges charity drives for other third-sector organisations. It focuses on initiatives concerning clothes, food, toys, blood, pet adoption and public services.

Not revealing whether the items he handed over included hip hop clothing and urban wear, Mr Kramer noted: "The clothes were hung up in my closet, colour-coordinated and not being worn."

Meanwhile, founder and board member of the Pledge Five Foundation Jason Bowman commented: "Students don't have a lot of money to give right now and nobody has a lot of time. We encourage them to give as much as they can."

Talking about the inspiration for the initiative, he stated that he had never seen an organised strip poker tournament and he thought it would be a fun way to get people involved.

Under the rules of the event, at each blind transition in the poker contest, all those who took part that were below the average chip stack lost an article of clothing. However, they were not allowed to undress to anything below a bathing suit.

They could either play for free or by handing over cash and a donation of garments. Those who opted for the latter approach received a VIP wristband, an event T-shirt, beer, priority seating and a raffle entry, among other things.
