We are used to depending on energy from fossil fuels like oil and coal. However, these are considered non-renewable sources of energy. While wind farms can only be built on vast tracts of land receiving a lot of wind and geothermal plants have to be near the edges of tectonic plates or areas that are near to high geothermal temperatures, a solar panel can be placed anywhere that receives sunlight and it can produce electricity. Solar panels are made up of small solar cells that convert sunlight into direct current. A solar panel can stand alone and need not be configured into a line of panels called an array such as the SEGS in the Mojave desert.
One or two solar panels are also easy to install on your home by following simple instructions. You can always ask help from a professional to install the panels for you if you are not comfortable doing the installation on your own. If you wish to have a bigger reduction on your electric bill, you can either add more panels or consider replacing your roof tiles with solar or photovoltaic (PV) tiles. PV tiles would have to be installed by a professional and will add to the cost of going on solar energy. But since it would make your roof your very own solar station, you can expect to pay only a minimal electric bill or may not even need to pay for electricity again. By using solar energy, you are not only reducing your electric bill, but you are also minimizing your carbon footprint and reducing pollution. |
