Oracle Grid Technology and Transportable Tablespace feature

From Oracle 10g, Grid concept has been introduced. We know in 10g, g stands for Grid technology. What is the Grid? Oracle Grid computing is common pool of all applications and databases. Using Grid, managing all databases and application is becoming more easily and efficiently. Central Grid can control all network databases from different platforms including Oracle RAC, Standby databases etc. Grid enables shared infrastructure of all applications and databases which is helpful to manage fastest and easier way.
Transportable tablespace feature was introduced in Oracle 8i. It was great enhancement and concept for transferring huge data between databases. For sending huge data using TTS is very simple. Check the dependencies of tablespace, make it read only, copy and paste datafiles of tablespace across to databases and export metadata of tablespace for importing in target database.
But there is some restriction for this feature in earlier releases of Oracle. That was we can't transport tablespace in different kind of operating systems. All versions of Oracle and operating system should need same. From Oracle 10g new concept has been introduced that is cross platform transporting.
We can transport the tablespace in cross platform of operating system. Using "endian" we can move data to another database. There are 2 types of "endian" available big and small. If we are using big to big or small to small transporting then there is no need of RMAN utility otherwise we need RMAN for "endian" conversion.
In short, we can say moving huge data between databases is becoming easier and quicker. Using transportable tablespace is best and efficient way for data transferring. One question can be crop up that when it needs? Why we need to move data across the databases? It is very intelligent query. Because when we are working on 24*7 databases, and we need to send huge data to another database. Sometimes disk io found more and want to share disk io across databases. In some situation we need to merge data from another database to production database or want to insert bulk from another data using distributed query. Means there are lot of scenarios available for using this feature.
In Oracle Grid technology, transportable tablespace is ultimate feature. Because using Grid we can move huge data so quickly to another database or transfer data across to cross platform of databases. Main concept of TTS in Grid computing is managing shared network in easiest and fastest way of approach. TTS is not single feature of Oracle Grid technology, there are lot of another features introduced. Managing databases using Grid feature is becoming more easily and effectively. Due to this kind of several reasons Oracle Grid is more popular and on demand now a days.
