Do not allow your dog to snatch his food

A dog will snatch food from his owners hand if he is going to lose it, this type of behaviour is normal for a dog but it is best that a pet learns how to take his treat in a correct manner.

A puppy usually develops this habit during puppyhood, especially when fighting off his litter brother and sisters to get some of his mother's milk, the main element of his pet diet.

If you are training your puppy and a reward is a treat, he may accidentally bite your hand. However this is quite unintentional.

When training your puppy and you intend to give him his dog treat, keep your hands flat, tucking in your thumb so he is able to retrieve his treat without accidentally nipping your skin.

Dog treats should not be given to a puppy or adult dog in place of quality dog nutrition in the form of his daily meals. Treats should be given as a reward, and included in the overall balance of the daily amount of food he is eating every day.

A pet diet for a puppy should consist of nutritious meals that are full of quality meat and essential carbohydrates and vitamins to help keep him in good health while he is growing into an adult dog.

A small puppy will often feel he has to eat up all the food you give him, so at this stage of his life it is more suitable to give him four small portions of food until he reaches he is 6 month old.

When you bring home a puppy or a dog, nutrition is always going to be a priority for dog owners during his lifetime; at Hills Pets we are proud of our online range of quality pet food such as Hills Science Plan and accompanying snacks, which are made with good dog nutrition in mind.
