Inspiring Learning

Inspiring children to learn is a hard thing to get right. As any tutor knows there needs to be a mixture of respect and enjoyment in any classroom to make sure students are more likely to want to learn, as well as rewards for those who try their hardest so they feel they are actually achieving something.
Simply trying to educate students in a staid, boring way will not inspire children to learn and, especially when it comes to younger children, there needs to be far more focus paid to making the experience as enjoyable as possible without losing focus.
The best way to inspire learning will always be to make it interesting, not in a generic way, but instead to make it connect personally with those in the class. However, with larger classes it may be harder to try and connect individually with each student, but a small amount of effort to reach as many as possible will often take no extra time and serve to make sure that people aren’t being left behind.

Years ago, afflictions such as ADHD were less known, but today teachers are far more equipped to understand individual needs, and in turn tailor classes to be as inclusive as possible. Therefore, when offering rewards and incentives such as stickers or certificates, it is important not just to give them to the ones who received the best results, but instead to those who have actually made an effort.
Those who try their hardest only to see everyone else receiving stickers and certificates are bound to get disheartened and start to lose focus, therefore the best way to inspire learning is to reward people for simply trying their best, right from the very start.
Inspiring learning at school, at home or simply in life is all about making a connection and letting them know that hard work and interest really does get noticed.
