Successful Green Cleaning Program for Commercial Facilities
|
The "Green Cleaning" first swept the professional cleaning industry long time ago. It took
some of us in the industry years and years to really understand why we need to go green.
We all know that cleaning products are number one contribution to indoor air quality
issues in close environments. A lot of them contain high level of VOGs, some alkyl phenol
ethoxylate and carcinogens the substances which can cause skin damage, respiratory
irritation and occupational asthma.
Using green cleaning products are not the only thing you should look in to it when you truly
want to put your business above the competition. In this marketplace, positioning yourself
as an expert in implementing a successful green program takes much, much more.
You need to develop your plan. A comprehensive green cleaning program requires
collaboration with multi-disciplinary team, including research, careful implementation and
oversight. You need to identify facility leader who will support the objective.
Green cleaning procedures focus on cleaning effectiveness and are not much different from
normal cleaning system. Making your green program focuses on reducing the building
occupants and your workers exposures to possible harmful contaminants, reduce waste that
affects the environment and makes the cleaning process more efficient.
Green cleaning is a new approach to taking care of the building. In addition, to do this
you have to have the right tools in your toolbox to do the job. You may need to change
equipment, disposable paper products, trash can liners, air fresheners and other cleaning
supplies that you use in order to care for the building and stay on track with your green
cleaning program. You should look into your floor care solution like carpet cleaning, floor
stripping and waxing products. Don't forget about commercial vacuum cleaners with proper
filtration system. Quality of the air is a part of your green cleaning program also.
You need to check if all your green products and equipment are certified with Green Seal or
other Group Purchasing Organization. Your basic cleaning supplies should be certified under
Green Seal's GS37 standard and your floor care products should be under GS40 standard.
You need to take a look also in to fuel usage program. Plan your purchase order for supplies
as a part of been green campaign. Order large quantity and make sure your supplier covers
only close to each other sites. Servicing end customers in a specific area of a community on
certain days can significantly reduce driving times and fuel needs.
You need to have an open communication with the facility managers to implement recycle
program along with your green cleaning. You can easy help them to start recycle program
by purchasing recycle containers, train all occupants, and even work with your local Waste
Management Company to be a part of the journey.
When your cleaning company is ready to make changes, you have expectations and to get
your green cleaning program off to a good start, you must have a communication plan that
manages your expectations and shows off your successes. You must also be sure that all
occupants of the building know what you are doing and how it will affect them and let them
know their responsibilities and how they are to be carried out.
Many cleaning companes are working very hard to implement cutting edge tactics
and very specific strategy to use the most official "Green Program" ever.
We are very proud of our accomplishment and we are still improving every day to keep our
clients, workers and Planet Earth healthy and safe. |
