Few people have achieved what Florence Broadhurst managed to accomplish throughout her career. Florence was originally a singer who graced the stage professionally in Asia, where she established a performing arts school in Shanghai. She travelled widely and continually reinvented herself along the way. She is now best known for creating what is now considered a national treasure. Hundreds of designs that are considered to be some of the best decorative art available in the world.
Unquestionably talented, Florence lived both an eccentric and awe-inspiring life that was unparalleled for many years. By 1972, her wallpapers reportedly contained around 530 designs. By the mid-1970s she monopolised the quality end of the Australian market and was exporting worldwide.
By the time of her death in 1977, Florence had lived and worked across Australia, Asia, and England.
