Nokia Announced Lay Off 1,800 Workers Worldwide


Nokia on Thursday announced third-quarter earnings and announced that it would lay off 1,800 people in the world.

Nokia showed a profit, to benefit from global economic recovery and strong low-end market demand for smart phones, Nokia third-quarter earnings per share were 0.14 euros, down from 0.18 euros a year ago, but higher than the 0.08 to 0.12 euros in the market expectations.

Nokia also announced that it will lay off 1,800 people in the world. Nokia's new CEO Stephen Elop Symbian will streamline operations to respond to the increasingly fierce competition in the smart phone market.

Elop said that Nokia "is a serious split in the industry during a recent performance shows that we have on our role, and industry policies to re-evaluate."

Nokia reported a third quarter, Nokia's operating profit to 403 million euros, compared to an operating loss last year 426 million euros, with sales of 102 million euros, an increase of 5%. In the third quarter, Nokia sold 110.4 million handsets, an increase of 2%.
