Keeping Your Office Productive

Ensuring your office is a productive environment is integral if you want to have the best chance at growth and in turn success. Even for those operating at a size they are happy to maintain will want to make sure that standards do not slip and that in turn the company doesn’t start to suffer. So what steps can be taken to ensure that the office is a productive one.

Creating a productive office environment is not simply about trying to have the right atmosphere for people to work in (although this will indeed help), but also about ensuring you have the right physical and emotional aspects in place too.

Firstly, it is important to make sure the space is inspiring. People need to feel motivated to do well, and the way you structure your space can help this massively. Firstly, decor can play a major role in how relaxed and galvanised staff are, whilst the comfort of furniture and even the layout of the room will also make a big difference.

Having a space that feels too claustrophobic will create an oppressive effect, although at the same time in certain lines of work people may feel self-conscious if they are too exposed or may be unable to carry out certain function in the way they need to. Therefore, the space individuals have and how they are positioned should be plotted uniquely based on what individual roles are and what your business does in general.

Office lighting is also going to be very important. The wrong office lighting can have a soporific effect or conversely lead to eye-strain. Therefore, specific trade lighting should be employed to ensure that staff can see clearly for the exact tasks they need to carry out, without them needing to strain to see or be affected by glare.

Whilst trade lighting and relaxing and inspiring decor are going to have a major effect, management style is also going to make a very big difference on just how efficient staff are. Whilst there are many courses that can help managers increase their skill set, it often simply boils down to being able to command respect. Breathing down people’s neck will only lead to irritability, resentment and stress, whilst rewarding people fairly for good work and ensuring that people feel valued will help to make sure that people simply want to do good work. Should someone not be achieving what they should be, try a different approach rather than trying to make them feel bad about their under-achievement.

The work space should also be ordered and tidy. Whilst you may not believe in feng shui, it is hard to deny that having a cluttered environment will lead to distractions and in turn the mind feeling cluttered. Allowing people to be able to find what they need easily, you will also be increasing productivity by reducing wasted time too.

Creating a productive environment may be easier than you think, and just a few simple steps could vastly increase how efficient you and your staff are.
