What is the best type of promotional merchandise?
|
Whatever business sector you are in, one thing is for sure- things are hard out there for everyone. Looking to ways to raise your public profile by sending clients promotional products may be one of the best ways of keeping your image fresh in the mind of potential business partners while still keeping your costs quite low in the middle of an economic recession.
With this in mind, is there really such a thing as the best kind of promotional gifts you should be sending out to new and existing business clients? Certainly, the type of promotional merchandise you should choose should be suited to your company and the type of clientele you are trying to reach. So, in this respect, one type of promotional product will work best for one company, but perhaps will not perform as well for another.
In general, the best types of promotional gifts are those that will be practical, will give a good impression of your company and be relevant to the client who has received it. This will ensure it will be used and may therefore have more of a chance of being seen by a greater audience. Of course, the type of product you choose should not cost you the earth, so think about what you are prepared to pay for before settling on a chosen product.
On the whole, the 'best' types of products are things like pens, diaries, mugs and calendars as they are practical and could be used by a vast array of clients. By choosing gifts like these there is no need to think about the age, gender, ethnicity or religion of the client as they would appeal to people from all backgrounds. Alternatively, if you base your choice on what looks nice or what is fashionable, it may not be as effective as a marketing product. This is due to the fact that it may not exactly be suitable for the intended client and would consequently end up at the bottom of a bin, never to be seen again. And that would not be money well spent.
Products should also be relevant to your company and reflect the type of services you offer. By having a practical item with your company logo or name on it to make clients clearly identify your business. It may not always be worthwhile to send out something that is fashionable or on trend at the minute, as a few months down the line it may well be resigned to the back of the client’s top drawer.
Certainly, once you have found the perfect gifts, you need to know how to recognise the products that are both attention grabbing and are effective in promoting your business. Look at things that will last the test of time. For example, if your main clients are office based, look around your desk and think about what everyday items you would tend to use day in, day out. Perhaps items such as mouse mats, pens, coffee mugs and rulers would work best. For those clients based outside an office environment, think of items such as umbrellas, travel mugs and even all-weather jackets.
