A quick look at how ISO defines business leadership

The ISO offers up a great many standards by which to define and set systems in place. The best known of all of these relate to those focussed upon creating and maintaining strong leadership in modern day global business.

Heading the list of these ISO management standards are ISO 14001 and most notably, ISO 9001. Ownership of these allows systems to be certified, which is demonstrable on a global scale, forging productivity and business continuity. However, there are others which can provide excellent guidance in other areas.

As corporate transparency becomes ever asked for, companies are seeking to attain ISO 2600 more readily. The standard which guides how an organisation can increase its social responsibilities, it moves away from a certified system, but can allow for greater understanding to be created.

Another standard which is proving increasingly popular is ISO 31000 which allows for companies to analyse risk effectively. Again, this is not a certifiable standard, but can allow for areas of concern within a structure to be highlighted and acted upon.

Both of the above standards can go a long way to helping organisations become more aware of their place in society, and in the business world. However, though they are closely aligned to the ISO 9001 model, many areas move away from it and, they remain uncertifiable by independent accredited bodies.

Though good to have therefore, it is seeking ISO certification of ISO 9001 which gives complete assurance to business partners and customers. Globally recognised, and designed to deliver best practice for management across all business sectors, nothing has proven to be on a par with it thus far.

For UK business, working to achieve a leading management structure and systems integrity is ever more important. At DNV, we recognise this and are helping organisations of all sizes to achieve the standards and certification they need to continue to perform.
