How good looking stationery can also be environmentally friendly

In today’s environmentally friendly times, using up the world’s rapidly dwindling supplies of trees on the manufacture of stacks of paper for home and office use would seem like a poke in the eye for the environmentalists. Also, the mention of ‘environmentally friendly’ stationery often conjures up ideas of poor quality porous paper, dotted with splinters of wood and coloured a slightly lighter shade of grey. It is therefore quite difficult these days to not only justify, but find a good selection of office stationery that also looks stylish and at the same time does not offend the environmental lobby.

However, environmentally friendly stationery these days would grace rather than detract from any home office stationery requirements. Recycled pencils often contain no wood at all, and are made from recycled vending cups. They still manage to write as well as a more conventional pencil. Office furniture and chairs can also fit the highest specifications for comfort and style, yet conform to ecodesign through disassembly when reaching the end of their shelf life - and also refurbishment, where articles are bought back by the manufacturers and parts re-used.

It is paper however where good practice in recycling remains highly prominent. Many organisations in the pulp and paper industry work together to produce a product that helps to protect the world’s endangered forests from extinction, and develop commercial frameworks that shift production and consumption towards a greener and more environmentally friendly stance. There are also calls for reducing unnecessary paper consumption, resourcing wood fibres responsibly, the end of forest clearing, using alternative crops for paper manufacture, eliminating the use of pesticides and fertilisers in fibre production, and maximising recycling content.

We at suppliesweb are pleased to advise our clients on the range and validity of all types of environmentally friendly office stationery and furniture that we stock.
