Family to buy country house with marble fireplaces

Marble fireplaces can be highly attractive and they make a grand feature in rooms, drawing in people's attention and providing a focal point. While they are becoming increasingly popular in contemporary properties, they have always been a characteristic of grand, older residences.

One such property based near Claverley in the Midlands is set to be purchased by a private family for over £6 million, the Express & Star reports. The residence was constructed nearly two centuries ago and this will be only its second sale.

Chyknell Hall has been on the market since March and its owners revealed they are sad to be leaving the abode, complete with its impressive fireplaces. Speaking to the publication, Simon and Mary Kenyon-Slaney stated that they love the building they have lived in for 42 years but have opted to downsize.

The couple raised their three sons there and Mr Kenyon-Slaney has had a long and illustrious career in the area. After completing his education at Eton, he has been a High Sheriff of Shropshire, a forester and farmer and a chartered surveyor.

As well as its marble fireplaces, the mansion features 12 bedrooms, six bathrooms, a swimming pool, wooded garden and tennis court. Furthermore, it comes complete with 360 acres of freehold land, including 96 acres of Shropshire woodland.

According to the Express & Star, its interior is decorated with "ornate plaster cornicing" and "silk wall coverings"

Commenting on the developments regarding the property, Tony Morris-Eyton from estate agent Savills said: "A sale has been arranged to a private English family and we're now working very hard on that."

The home, complete with its fireplaces, is a Grade II listed Regency house and it is located 22 miles from Birmingham. Set over three floors, it features 14,800 square feet of living space based over three floors.
