A Green Packaging Option; Cardboard Boxes

Cardboard boxes, first manufactured in the year 1817 in England. They were discovered by Robert Gair who had the idea that when precut cardboard is folded, it will from a box. He is known as the one who gave birth to the modern packaging industry as we se it today. In earlier times, many of you must have seen heavy wooden boxes being used while moving places. The drastic change in the packaging industry occurred during the World Wars I and II when the prime concern was to protect the food supplied to soldiers. With the passage of time packaging also changed and the invention of cellophanes was the next big step in the packaging industry.

Today, cardboard boxes are a highly preferred packaging option as they are really easy to recycle apart from being cheap and reusable thus helping in reducing cost implications. One can even recycle the cardboard packaging boxes on and further save on costs. Most local authorities collect cardboard boxes for recycling and they even have attractive schemes.

Today cardboard boxes can withstand most of the challenges thrown at it. Usually one selects packaging boxes based on the following questions:

- Will the packaging protect the stored items from vibrations, chocks and heat?
- Will it be possible to group a number of different items in the same packaging?
- Do you need to have any communication to be printed or written on the packaging box?
- Will it be vital that your packaging box is easy to open, close and repack?
- Now I am sending across a gift. Will the packaging material be attractive and appealing?

Cardboard boxes are easily able to accomplish all of these things that too in an ultra affordable and eco-friendly manner.
Now you may ask what exactly are these packaging boxes made of which makes them such a preferred option. The answer lies in the manufacturing of cardboard boxes. These boxes are made from two layers of cardboard known as liners. This liner is manufactured from long fibers which make it hard-wearing and strong. The central part is corrugated and known as the fluting. The fluting is manufactured from short stiff fibers making it resistant to pressure. Cardboard boxes commonly have a single wall consisting of two liners and one fluting wall. Multiple wall corrugated cardboard boxes are also used as packaging boxes.

Uses of cardboard packaging boxes:

The list of uses of cardboard boxes is pretty long. It can be used for shipping products, moving boxes, as toys for children, for preserving various items in public safe storage spaces, gifting items, etc.

Moreover, as I said earlier cardboard boxes are highly recycle-able and re-usable. Also, unlike when cardboard decomposes in landfills as it is bio degradable.
