Bust the karaoke jargon

Choosing a karaoke machine can seem a complicated process at first. There are so many types of karaoke machine and not all use the same types of equipment. There are different features and benefits to each karaoke system and some use different types of technology to play the karaoke music.

Here is a breakdown of the terms you will come across when buying your karaoke system: Karaoke system - this is a catch all for the whole karaoke package. It will often include the karaoke machine, the speakers, the monitor and the karaoke music played by the machine. Karaoke Machine - the machine itself is the karaoke music player. Some systems have an all-in-one set up which have a player, speakers and the monitor all built in to one unit. Others come as separate pieces of equipment.

Karaoke monitor - this is where the lyrics are displayed when the karaoke music is played. Some systems allow you to plug in to your TV or PC screen instead rather than having to buy extra equipment. In addition to the two types of system you also have the choice of karaoke song discs. The most popular are DVDs, CDs and MP3 formats. Some karaoke systems may also have in-built karaoke music. However, when choosing your system bear in mind that they are often geared up to one format or another.

DVDs are standard DVDs that have a music sound track and the lyrics displayed as the picture on the screen. Lyrics are often displayed against a solid colour background but newer ones may have videos or scenic backgrounds. CDs - CDs come with embedded graphics and act in a similar way to the DVDs MP3 - these can be downloaded onto your computer, IPod or MP3 player. At A1 Karaoke we have a range of karaoke equipment and music to choose from.
