Things You Need to Know About Plastic Decking And Its Advantages

Some people are taking environmental issues a lot more earnestly. They are now more conscious of the trees being cut and created into all sorts of furniture. As a result, they tend to consider buying more of the non-wood stuff and materials. For instance, when building decks, more and more people are going for plastic decking instead. A plastic deck is made of recycled materials which were once considered as waste already.

Although not all plastic decks are made from recycled plastics, most of them are. They make the landfills less filled by making it back to people s homes in different form. And the great thing about these decks is they can be used and enjoyed for many years without having to do much. They are easy to keep and do not decompose nor splinter. If you wish to go barefoot all the time, you can comfortably do so!

Using plastic decks also frees you from using stains, paints, and other refinishing materials. They do not need to be brushed with water-resistant solutions neither do they need annual re-painting. Another thing about these decks is they do not have any issues with mildew or mold. As they are made of plastic, they do not trap moisture. They do not rust either.

While some may say that decking made of plastic may fade especially when exposed to sunlight over time, some claim that they don t. Actually, although there may be some truth to the former claim, plastic decks are not expected to fade too fast or too severely. Just like other furniture, long exposure under the sun can cause some color changes, but it s a normal thing for every appliance and furniture being used at home.

Plastic decks have realistic wood finish so from a distance, no one would be able to easily tell whether it s plastic or cedar. They are also slip resistant so you won t have to practice extra care when walking on them. Although they may not feel like wood, they will at least look like it; and although they feel like plastic, at least they are not slippery! They neither have issues with termites and other wood-eating insects.

Plastic decking may be self-installed if you have the carpentry background and the tools for the job. There are metal fasteners that can be used for some types of these decks while pre-drilling may be required by others. For easier installation, there are interlocking planks available too. You can choose the type that best suits you.

Plastic decks are also available in a variety of wood types and colors. If your home has a specific color motif, you can consider it in choosing the deck to use.

Finally, if you do not feel like going for 100 percent plastic deck, you can opt to have composite decking instead. It is made from the combination of plastic and wood. It is also easier to maintain and long-lasting.
