The film was inspired from the 1967 song entitled "Happy Together" by The Turtles. The film tells the tale of a complex romantic affair between two men. Happy Together gained positive reviews from different international film festivals. Wong won the Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival in 1997. The San Francisco Chronicle gave the film high ratings. According to correspondent Edward Guthmann, Wong brought lavishes with ease throughout the film's cinematography and became one of the best Asian films directed by an innovative director. Rosenbaum criticized the film's vague plot and Wong's directorial effort. The "Box Office Magazine" also criticized the film for its mediocre concept and lack of narrative. Happy Together garnered eight nominations and one acting award for Tony Leung at the 1997 Hong Kong Film Festival. The film also won Best Cinematography at the Golden Horse Awards and "Audience Choice for Best Foreign Film" at the Arizona International Film Festival in 1998.

The Love of Siam eventually bagged the Best Picture award in various film festivals and award-giving bodies in Thailand including the prestigious National Film Association, Starpics and Kom Chad Leuk awards. The film stars Thai actors Mario Maurer, Songsit Rungnopakunsri and Sinjai Plengpanic. The Love of Siam was nominated as Best Foreign Language Film at the 81st Annual Academy Awards.
"Huhoehaji Anha" or "No Regret" is one of Korea's controversial Gay Movies in 2006. The film marked the directorial debut of Korean short film director Lee Song Hi. No Regret is based from Lee's previous short film entitled "Good Romance". The film is the first Korean film to feature frontal nudity and regarded by critics as the first "Real Korean Gay Film". The film is said to be an adaptation of the 2002 Korean gay film entitled "Road Movie". No Regret stars Korean gay independent film actors Lee Yeong Hun and Kim Nam Gil. The film was exclusively screened at the Berlin Film Festival in February 2007 and at the 9th Annual Barcelona Film Festival in April 2007. No Regret became one of South Korea's top independent box-office films when it was released in November 2006. Lee Song Hi won Best Director at the Korean Director's Cut Award in 2006. |
