The Amazing Xperia Mini And Xperia Mini Pro From Sony Ericsson - Two New Compact Smartphones

It is generally accepted that 2010 was not the best year for Sony Ericsson with several of their handsets not being received well by both the public and the industry experts. There were however a couple of bright spots in the shape of the X10 Mini and the X10 Mini Pro handsets. These mobiles were designed to tackle the area of the market where people wanted a smartphone but minus the size of the big screen varieties. It is therefore no surprise that we have seen these models updated for 2011, and without the X10 prefix in the name.

The Xperia Mini and the Xperia Mini Pro follow the same template as the previous models with the Pro having the added bonus of a full qwerty keypad. This really pits this model directly in line with the HTC Gratia and the Sony Ericsson come out on top thanks to some great screen technology and excellent design. At a glance the phone looks like any other compact phone with the display occupying much of the fascia but the phones depth of 18mm does give you a very big clue that there is something lurking beneath the screen. This slide out keyboard adds some extra appeal to the phone especially amongst business users or indeed the new generation who utilise instant messaging systems. The Xperia Mini Pro is also going to be made available in a choice of four colours which together with its tiny size is certain to make the phone desirable with those purchasing the handset based on style rather than substance.

Whereas the Xperia Mini Pro covers the gap in the market that is filled by those requiring a full keypad its sister model, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, is much more like a traditional handset without the extra keys. This keeps the weight of the device down to just 94 grammes which is a major plus point to many potential consumers as anybody looking at this model is obviously requiring a very compact smartphone. Asides from this the specification is the same across both models with the processor being an area that particularly stands out. 1Ghz is a great chip speed in many large screen models but in this smaller unit ensures the phone is lightning fast. The models incorporate a micro SD card slot which may prove invaluable as the internal storage is a fairly limited 400MB. Sony Ericsson however do redeem themselves slightly by including a 2GB SD card in the box. As you would expect from a modern smartphone connectivity options are extensive with WiFI being accompanied by 3G and EDGE to help ensure users have internet access wherever they are.

If Sony Ericsson can replicate the quality on offer with the Xperia Mini and the Xperia Mini Pro in some of there larger models then 2011 may prove a very good year for them. These handsets are undoubtedly the best miniature smartphones available and offer a refreshing change from the huge numbers of large screen devices we a currently seeing.
