The main use and purpose of blackout window curtains is to block the light that filters into a room. Black out window curtains come in many styles, colors, designs, and materials, but the intention is to block one hundred percent of the light. These curtains are also known as blackout curtains drapes, lined blackout curtains, light blocking curtains, room darkening curtains, and blackout curtains. No matter what they are called, the purpose remains the same, and they serve many applications as well.
These types of curtains serve well in the household, especially in rooms where the sunlight hits directly, and the need for shade is essential, for rest, or to protect furniture or other items, such as works of art, books, or special collections, which the sunlight would damage. Other applications include hotels, photo studios, scientific labs (laser labs), sleep clinics, universities, hospitals, prisons, post offices, airport security, school labs, truckers, carnivals and magicians, and many more applications.
Some blackout window curtains are made with a fire retardant or flameproof material. They are strong, block out light 100% and some have stainless steel grommets for easy hanging. They also come with pockets to slide a rod inside. These curtains also are energy efficient since the help you cool a room in the summer and retain heat in a room during colder months.
These curtains come in all colors to enhance a décor, although popular ones for industrial applications or labs are traditionally, black and white. The length mimics that of traditional window curtains. Designs include solid colors, prints, or stripes. The outside side or liner of these curtains is usually white - to repel the sunlight, while the other side is dark - to darken a room and prevent the light from filtering in.
Black out shades are also available for people who do not care about curtains. They could be motorized or pull-chain; they are also made of strong material and fireproof. Other types that utilize the same idea are blackout window covers, which attach to a window with Velcro.
Blackout window curtains not only block light and save you money on energy bills; they also reduce noise from the outside. Installation of these types of curtains is easy, just like traditional curtains; however, it is important to install them leaving no gaps so light does no filter. These curtains were first introduced as industrial applications, but soon their use spread to households, making their design and style more appealing to home décor. |
