Could positive attitudes boost weight loss treatments?

People using weight loss treatments may benefit from having a positive attitude, it has been suggested.

Writing on a myGLOSS blog, Maggie Vink suggested that attitude is a very important part of the process of getting in shape.

No doubt, her words will be of interest to those attempting to slim down for summer vacations.

Ms Vink noted: "I've struggled with weight most of my adult life and I've tried them all. I often blamed my failures on the diet plan until I finally experienced some weight loss success.

"Really working at losing weight and seeing results made me truly open my eyes to my past diet fails. My biggest obstacle to weight loss was my attitude."

The writer pointed out she had an "all or nothing" way of thinking, which meant she would overreact to incidents in which she slipped up and allowed herself an edible treat.

To those interested in body care issues and using weight loss treatments, Ms Vink said achievable goals should be set.

When individuals have a lot of weight to lose, the total amount can seem daunting, she stated. It can help if people focus on more immediate goals, such as the first ten pounds.

Small milestones can also aid those who are developing a body care regime that incorporates exercise, she advised.

Another tip she offered was for people to picture themselves thin and looking their best, as this can be motivational.

Meanwhile, individuals should not beat themselves up over small slip ups, she said.

Recently, pregnant women were told they should avoid eating too much during their pregnancies as this can put their own health and that of their unborn babies at risk.

Experts from the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence said so-called 'eating for two' is a myth that needs to be corrected.
