The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play Boasts A Lot More Than Incredible Gameplay Functions

The recently released Sony Ericsson Xperia Play has had plenty of media coverage and reviews regarding its capabilities as a gaming phone. This is understandable, as the handset comes complete with PlayStation certified controls, as well as next generation games designed specifically for this handset. Aside from the gaming aspect of this phone, the spec list is as comprehensive and functional as any other smartphone recently released. This article will focus on this, as many of the benefits of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play have gone relatively unreported.
Android Operating System
The operating system of choice for the Xperia Play is Android 2.3, also known as Gingerbread. This is the latest version of Google’s renowned software. One of the main benefits of this is that it allows users to download additional applications from the ever expanding library available from the Android Market. The apps available vary greatly in price, however it was recently announced that there are now more free apps on Android Market than the famous Apple AppStore. The apps cover many different categories, and give the user the opportunity to truly make the phone their own, and infinitely more useful.
Digital camera
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play has a built in digital camera which operates at2592x 1944 (5 megapixels) and provides an LED flash as well as the ability to capture video footage in WVGA quality. Additionally, geo-tagging is provided, and records the location at which the camera was used, thanks to built in GPS. Flash Lite is also provided, and this allows embedded videos and games to be viewed and played.
Internet Browsing
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play comes with a full HTML browser (with Flash Lite) which takes advantage the internet connection which is provided by either 3G or Wi-Fi. The latter offers the fastest connection whenever users have access to local wireless networks. 3G however, offers more coverage, and means that users do not have to be near a Wi-Fi network to enjoy decent browsing speeds.
Multimedia
Multimedia functionality plays a big part in the appeal of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play. Numerous video and music file formats are supported, and thanks to a pre-installed 8 GB microSD slot (upgradeable to 32 GB) users can easily store their entire digital music collection on the phones. For many, this will eliminate the need to carry a standalone MP3 player. For music fans, the TrackID app is also pre-installed. This allows users to identify unknown tracks simply by activating the application and holding it near a speaker. It will search its database of music tracks and display the details when it finds a match.
Of course there is much more to the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, but this article highlights some of the main benefits of the phone aside from its power as a gaming device. As you can see, it has the specifications to offer appeal to a wider audience than just gamer.
