Taste the Honey on a Golden Triangle Tour

Delhi, Jaipur and Agra- as bustling metropolitan cities that make up the Golden Triangle you might not think much of them as ideal romantic, honeymoon getaways. But you’d be surprised with how these cities can rise up the din and dust to serenade you and your partner to offer an ideal honeymoon destination.

While any Golden Triangle tour is a gorgeous tableau of scenes and sights, a honeymoon tour should begin and probably end at Agra where Shah Jahan’s Taj Mahal, his symphony in white marble, epitomizes love as no other monument in the world does. So awed was the renowned Urdu poet Ghalib with the Taj Mahal that he penned a couple of odes in its honor. So there’s a bright chance that the poet in you might surface to pen a couplet or two for your beloved- now what better way to commemorate your honeymoon!

Moon lit glory:
What can make your trip more memorable is a full moon night visit to the Taj Mahal. But be warned, seeing the Taj Mahal drenched in moonlight might make you forget you’re with your partner! Luckily, the government has opened the Taj Mahal for public viewing on full moon nights. Also if you’re luckier your honeymoon can coincide with cultural events that are organized ever so frequently in Agra. What not to miss out on, is the Taj Mahotsav, an extravaganza or art, crafts and celebrations.

Hand in hand:
As evocative as the visit to the Taj Mahal is equally mesmerizing are the Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri. The Fort is a treasure trove of Mughal architectural initiatives where the buildings represent a blend of different cultures- a thing which is a hallmark of the Mughal period. As the enamored as the Mughals were with marble structures, they did equal justice to red sandstone and this exotic medley of red and white buildings offers just the backdrop that you desire to profess your love.

Since this is your honeymoon, spend a few extra minutes at the Musamman Burj, an octagonal tower build within the Fort. This tower stands testimony to the beauty and devotion of the two most gorgeous and influential Mughal queens, Nurjahan and Mumtaz Mahal. The ornamental beauty of the pavilion adjacent to the tower outlives the romance the emperors had for their respective wives.

Border wonder:
On the fringe of the city lies Fatehpur Sikri. This one-of-its-kind royal city was built by the greatest Mughal emperor Akbar in honour of a Sufi saint who blessed him with three sons. Here too, the love and adoration of the emperor for his wives is evident in the architecture of the Panch Mahal and Diwan-I-Khas. So in short, Agra is a city that shouts out ‘love’ from every nook and cranny.

Happy endings:
Some Golden Triangle tour operators limit a honeymoon trip to visiting the Taj Mahal, the Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri alone for a simple reason that a honeymoon is not only about discovering a beautiful location but also about discovering a blossoming relationship. So head out to Agra as there is something golden about choosing a Golden Triangle Tour for one’s honeymoon!
