Pests Can Take Away the Roof off Your Head
|
Most of us love our homes. We clean it, decorate it and fill it with things that make it more comfortable and attractive. Nobody likes pests in their homes as they not only create nuisance but can also be damaging to the property and harmful for the people living in it. But while taking care of a house, people usually pay most attention to the walls and interior of the house. There are a number of pests like bed bugs, cockroaches, termites etc. which can effect interiors of a house and they should be tackled as soon as possible.
But while safeguarding a house from infestations, most people forget to check the roof of the house. People either don’t realize that infestation can spread to the roof too or feel that since roof is away from their stuff, a little infestation won’t make a difference. But the truth is that an infestation in roof can be far more damaging than anywhere else in the house.
Follow are some pest that can seriously damage the roofs:
Termites
Termites literally eat the wood. Since most roofs are basically made of wood, termites can wreck havoc in them. They can weaken the roof by destroying the large wooden beams of the roof. The worst thing about having termites in the roof is that if not detected on time, you might have to replace the entire roof.
Thus, if you detect any termite problems in your home, then make sure that you ask the exterminator to check your roofs too. While buying a new house, don’t forget to inspect the entire house, including roof for termites. Also, call an exterminator the minute you detect termites as even one day’s delay might cost you dearly.
Rats
If you think that rats only live inside holes in floor and walls, then you are wrong. Rats can stay in any hidden space inside a house, including roof. In fact, most chronic rat infestations find their root in the roof only. Rat infestation in roofs is not only damaging to the structure, but it can create a sanitation problem too. Rats not only chew on the wood, but their waste can create bad odor and pollute the air inside the house.
Besides these, other pests like cockroaches and moths can also infest in your roof. Even though these pests don’t damage the roof, but they can become safe haven for the pests.
When to call a pest control service to inspect your roof?
It is quite difficult to detect an infestation in the roof. One should never trust a naked eye inspection from an unqualified professional. Always call a professional exterminator to check your roof. If you see holes or crack on the upper part of the walls near the roof or if you find wood dust in your attic or on the floor, then call a exterminator immediately. |
