How to choose the right paint brushes.

While most of us realise the importance of buying quality paint for the redecoration of our homes, few of us put the same amount of thought into buying decorating tools.

However, as any painter and decorator with experience of the industry knows, the right decorating tools are essential in order to get a good end result. What is the most important tool of all? Paint brushes.

When choosing paint brushes there are things you should look out for.

The first is quality. While it might be tempting to spend on the paint and scrimp on the brush, the truth is that a poor quality brush is likely to have coarse hairs that will come out while you paint. Not only will you find yourself wasting time picking out loose hairs of the wet paint, but you will also find yourself faced with a streaky finish.

In comparison, quality brushes will leave you with an even and fine finish and make your expensive paint look its very best.

As with many things in life, buying good quality brushes will mean that they will last you for longer. This is because they will be easy to clean and will give you a good result even after they have been used a few times. It’s more environmentally friendly to re-use a brush, and will save you money in the long run.

The type of brush you end up with should take into account the type of paint you are using. For example, water-based paints go on better with synthetic brushes.

Finally, remember to take care of your paint brushes no matter how much money you end up spending on them.

Be sure to clean off excess paint and clean them with a specialised paint cleaner, before rinsing them under a tap until the water runs clear, and then allowing them to dry naturally.
