Health Benefits of Sushi

Sushi was one of the original forms of fast food. Whilst combinations of fish, rice and vegetables have been eaten in Japan for centuries, in the 19th century restaurants started serving up smaller, compact dishes that could be easily carried and eaten with the hands. This is the type of restaurant and delivery sushi we are familiar with today. But if it is designed to be ‘fast food’ just how healthy can it really be?

The fact that this type of food is based heavily around the presence of raw fish means that those eating sushi dishes will get a great source low-fat protein along with extremely beneficial Omega-3 fatty acids which aid everything from blood pressure to cholesterol levels, hugely lowering the chance of heart disease. However, equally as important are the Omega-3 benefits for the brain. Fish is believed to not only help the brain develop and stay healthy, but also potentially delay or prevent Alzheimer’s too.

Of course, there are other benefits to the food too other than those contained within the fish. The mixture of rice, fish and vegetables is also simply just very nutritious, offering us all kinds of vitamins and minerals from magnesium, calcium and iron to all manner of antioxidants. There are few foods that are as good for you in as many different ways as this type of ‘fast food’ will be.

However, there are risks too. For instance, not knowing how to properly handle and prepare raw fish can lead to a far higher chance of ingesting harmful bacteria. Therefore it is wise to use sushi delivery or head out to a restaurant instead of preparing it yourself. Sushi delivery also means you will find yourself with the widest range of options possible, meaning you can easily mix and match numerous items and therefore delivery sushi can offer you a far greater range of nutritional benefits as well as that added extra safety.
