Chlamydia: An Article On The STD, Its Remedies and Antibiotics

Chlamydia is a sexually spread illness induced by a bacteria known as "Chlamydia trachomatis". This bacterium not only afflicts the reproductive organs but can also infect the urinary tract along with eyes and throat.

The bacteria that causes Chlamydia can be spread by means of oral, vaginal or anal sex. An unborn child can catch this infection during vaginal birth. In the recent years the count of people suffering from Chlamydia have amplified manifold making it the most extensive sexually spread disease among the teenagers and youth.

If a woman is struggling with Chlamydia, she is most liable to have itching in the vagina, vaginal discharge, urination along with burning sensation, painful sex, bleeding between menstrual periods, inflammation in the rectum and the lining of the eye, fever, nausea and pain. A man afflicted with this may experience penile discharge, urination accompanied with burning sensation, irritation at the opening of the penis, swelling in the testicles, rectum and lining of the eye.

Chlamydia is also known as "silent epidemic" as in a lot of the cases, i.e. 75% in females and 50% in males, Chlamydia does not reveal any signs. This is what makes its detection difficult.

Effective antibiotics for Chlamydia are easily available. Doxycycline and Azithromycin are two most prescribed and extensively used antibiotics for Chlamydia. Just one dose of Azithromycin is prescribed in the cure. Though, if doxycycline is being administered for the cure, then it will have 7 days long dosage schedule.

These two antibiotics have proved to be helpful in the most severe persistent cases too. Erythromycin, ofloxacin, levofloxacin and amoxicillin are a few other alternate antibiotics for Chlamydia. Amoxicillin and erithromycin are the two antibiotics found safe for expecting women too.

Chlamydia can be prevented by using condom during sex, not indulging multiple partners and by refraining from sex with infected people. Sex education should also be imparted to teenagers and youth to make them alert about the sexually spread illness, how they are caused, their prevention, symptoms and the cure available for these.
