Loft Insulation

Lost insulation is very important for all homes, not only does it help keep your home warm in the winter months but at the same time it keeps it cool in the summer months. This is possible due to a material which has many air pockets which make it difficult for air to pass through. In the winters when you keep your home warm the rising heat will not be easily able to escape owing to the materials of the roof; while in summers as you try to keep your home cool, the heat from the outside will not be able to enter your home due to the insulation.

There are many types of loft insulations that you can go for to prevent the heat flow into and out of your house. Mineral wool is one of the easiest to install; the rolls are cut to properly fit between the floor joists in the loft. It would be wise if you then place another layer of padding to cover the joists as well. You can also place boards backed with insulation over the first layer of mineral wool to produce an even surface for storage. Sheep's wool insulation is quite a good choice and is becoming increasingly popular. It is treated with naturally derived additives to make it fireproof and acts as an insect repellant.

As wool is a natural fibre it does not have chances of causing skin irritation while being installed, as can be the case with other insulation. Insulation materials that are pumped into the spaces require professional help for installation. These are granules of mineral fiber that are blown through a huge hose to fill up spaces in between the joists. It is most beneficial in cases where joists are unevenly placed or where obstacles make it difficult to lay the blanket insulation. Granular insulation is yet another loft insulation that you can opt in for. In the process fibers are tipped onto the floor and then spread out. Apart from these methods, you can also go in for the multifoil or boards insulation. Before opting for any of these methods, you need to consult professionals, asking if a particular insulation is suitable for your loft..
