A Look Around The Impressive Salsa From HTC

The recent boom in social networking sites has seen mobile phone manufacturer HTC take the step of producing a handset that is designed with Facebook in mind. When you take in to account that nearly half of the UKs population currently uses the site, this a potential market of nearly 30 million people. The question that remains is just what makes this phone so different from any other smartphone with an internet connection and a Facebook application?

Taking a look around around the phone for the first time and the intentions of the phone are immediately obvious thanks to the Facebook button located on the bottom edge of the phone. This button not only enables access to your profile but it also illuminates when you are performing an action that can be shared on the site. Using the phones media facilities is perhaps the best example of this. The Salsa sports a high quality camera capable of capturing an image with a resolution of 5 million pixels. Once you have taken your desired photograph, the Facebook button lights up allowing you to instantly post the picture to your profile. This same can be used on all manner of different functions from video clips to extracts of texts. This reinforces the whole idea behind the handset that everything should be instant without the need of logging into the application every time you want to perform a function. This is also evident when it comes to Facebook chat, the sites own version of instant messaging services such as MSN and the hugely popular Blackberry IM. Where as on other handsets you would be required to actually be logged onto the site in order to use this facility, the Salsa lets you know immediately is a contact messages you via this method, meaning you are not restricted by what task you are performing at the time.

Another appealing aspect of the HTC Salsa is that it enables you to be a little selective with your contact list. You may not want to know if an old school friend you have not seen for ten years has checked into a venue, so thanks to the phones customisable Facebook widget you can be kept up to date with whats going on with only the people you chose to. This is a nice feature and really does save on hundreds of meaningless alerts. This emphasis on people is one which HTC heavily relies upon in the whole infrastructure of the handset. Whereas other models feed you information dependent on which application or function you are using at the time, the Salsa does so by people. Thus by clicking on a friends name you will see a host of information including SMS, E Mails, social networking updates and photo uploads to name but a few. This certainly seems a much more effective way of presenting the multitude of information that is now available.

The HTC Salsa will hold instant appeal with fans of Facebook, but dig a little deeper and it is clear that here we have a versatile and well specified handset that will also benefit a great number of other users.
