Those are high-pressure writing jobs, they were created by professional journalists and writers, plus they simply have to do a good job. Most likely they've written thousands of headlines over the years, and they understand how to hook someone into an article. So in a way, they are an expert at writing email subject lines, it's just that they use the skill for something else. As you read, or study them, you'll notice different patterns or objectives such as creating suspense, mystery, giving just enough information but not the whole story, etc. When you skillfully address the reader's emotions in your subject lines, the natural tendency is to follow the urge to read the email. This is such a simple yet incredibly powerful method to become proficient with writing headlines of all kinds, and of course that means subject lines, too.

Don't mistake a high "read" rate for a sign that you created a good subject line. This won't necessarily mean that your conversion goals have been met and that you are going to make lots of sales. There are many times when the subscriber opens the subject line out of curiosity or just to know what's it about, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he/she is interested.They might simply close the mail as soon as it is opened and that is why you need to measure the click through rate as well as the rate of opening. This measurement should tell you more about what's working and what isn't.

Spam filters are the bane of all legitimate marketers, and that will include you when you start building a list. The words you use in your entire email will be analyzed, and if it contains too many 'trigger' words, then it will be filtered out. Check out a list of words used in spam filters - they will be trigger words, and then avoid using them, simple as that. Only you can do this, and you just have to assume responsibility for the success of your emails.

If you take the time to learn it properly, you can develop yourself into a highly successful email marketer. All you do has an affect on you, and when you work to improve your own email subject lines, the better you'll get at it. The more you put into it, the more you'll get out of it - and that is just a fact about all you do.
