New centre may boost IT industry

The IT and communications sector plays a crucial role in business in the UK and many other nations around the world. Without such provisions, a considerable number of firms would grind to a halt, unable to continue operating. Indeed, the reliance on technology of this kind is reflected by the demand for IT support in Bradford, IT support in Leeds and in many other parts of the country.

In news that may be welcomed by people who use such services, a new centre of learning and research is to be opened in the south-east of England intended to boost skills in the industry.

The University of Bristol is launching the Centre for Doctoral Training in Communications. Costing £10 million, the facility received funding from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, which is a government agency that invests more than £850 million each year into a broad range of subjects.

According to the university, communications technology underpins operations in a range of industries in which the UK is a leader. It also claimed there is a growing demand for high-quality researchers and engineers who are capable of creating future products and services.

Meanwhile, professor of communications engineering at the institution Joe McGeehan said: "The new centre will provide major benefits to the UK's economy, its knowledge base and its society. Our partnership with industry has been critical in shaping and winning this centre and will continue to be so in its delivery phase.

"As well as producing innovative solutions to key emerging research challenges, the centre will provide an advanced training network for the communications community nationally."

Developments like this may well be needed as the need for IT support in Bradford, IT support in Leeds and similar services around the country continues to grow. As technology advances, businesses' reliance on it becomes more and more entrenched.
