EastEnders star is showered with baby gifts

BBC soap EastEnders is never short of pregnancy and childbirth story lines and not to be outdone, one of its stars has revealed she is due to have a baby herself in the near future. Laurie Brett, who plays Jane Beale, is set to become a mum for the first time and is due to go into labour in May.

The actress, whose fictional counterpart is unable to conceive, also noted she has been showered with baby gifts since she told people she was set to have a child. Speaking to Hello! magazine, she noted that some of the new baby gifts are coming from a somewhat unexpected source.

She remarked: "I keep arriving at my dressing room to find that Steve McFadden has left all sort of gifts outside my door, including a beautiful crib. He's been like Santa." McFadden plays Albert Square hard man Phil Mitchell, who is not renowned for his sensitive side.

Meanwhile Brett, who hails from Hamilton in Scotland, also pointed out that her co-star and onscreen husband Adam Woodyatt, who plays Ian Beale, realised she was pregnant before she chose to reveal the fact.

Commenting on this, she noted: "He said, 'you're pregnant, aren't you?' It's not surprising that he knew as we spend more time with each other than we do with our partners. I had suddenly become very sensitive to certain smells and I wasn't going out for cigarette breaks."

As well as the baby gifts, the actress has been receiving parenting tips from some of her colleagues. Also, Linda Henry, who plays Shirley Carter, and Cheryl Fergison, who performs the role of Heather Trott, have vowed to take her on a shopping spree.

No doubt all the new baby gifts and advice will come in handy when the child makes its entry into the world.
