Getting Sports Autographs by Mail

There are some sports fans who are just so passionate with their dream team or favorite players that they have almost all kinds of sports items signed by big-time players and are either laminated, framed or encased. Indeed, collecting sports autographs is a pleasurable habit, as the feeling of getting the signature of one's idol is both a once in a lifetime opportunity and a lifetime treasure. On the other hand, there are some who collect these signatures not just out of pleasure or hobby but also at the same time as a good investment or for a future business.

Getting an autograph may be simple for some but tough for others. There are many ways on how one can get a signature of his or her beloved athlete. No matter how one plans to get his or her favorite player to sign an item, the act would all need some perseverance, confidence, and alas – a little bit of luck too!

The Personal Approach

One way of getting a sports autograph is to ask for it personally. Attending sports events is the first step in this approach. The chance of getting an autograph is much greater if one has a friend who happens to be the event coordinator or who works at the stadium - at least there's someone to help. Being professional and courteous is one way of showing the player some respect. It's not really appropriate to kiss or hug the player when he is in a formal position. A simple handshake is quite enough. On the other hand, do not ignore new players or those who are not that popular. And always be ready with a pen and the item to be signed on because even if the chances of getting an autograph seem slim, who knows, coincidence might come over!

Purchasing Online

There are shopping sites which have sellers who put up their sports memorabilia for sale. Some shopping sites even have items for each type of sport. However, there are chances that some of these items are fake ones. That's why it's very important for a collector to protect himself from being scammed.

Writing

Getting sports autographs by mail is also a brilliant idea. The player would be very pleased to read one's letter, given that it is properly worded and is sincerely written. The following are some tips on how to collect autographs by mail:

- Select the athletes whom one likes to have an autograph of. Then, reflect upon the qualities and characteristics of that athlete, which make him or her suited to be idolized. Also take note of how long one has been a fan of this particular sports persona.
- Find the accurate and current addresses of these athletes.
- Write a polite and sincere letter. Make sure that it is error free and make one's intentions of writing very clear. It is advisable to start the letter with a paragraph stating why one admires this particular athlete. Do not make the letter too long that it may become too boring to read. Also, avoid telling one's life story or seek any professional advice on how to play a certain sport.
- At the end of the letter, specifically note one's complete address and contact information.
- Make sure that the letter will stand out, as an athlete may probably have hundreds of fan letters per month.

That's it. If the athlete likes the letter, then most probably, he or she will respond to the request. Even some athletes or teams do send sports fanpacks to their fans for letters that they love! After receiving the autographs, frame them or place them in a display case.

Writing a letter requesting an autograph from a sports icon is surely something that is brave to do for a fan, as the possibility that the letter might end up being ignored is there. But, with careful planning and flawless writing, an exceptional fan letter would really get the attention it deserves!
