Creative uses for steel cladding
|
Steel cladding doesn’t just have to be used to create an envelope around buildings – it can also be used in a myriad of situations that allow the designer to show a flair for creativity, as accents, or to highlight a specific part of a building.
Here we’ve outlined some of the most creative ways to use steel cladding and the best ways to incorporate them into your design briefs for future successful projects.
* Consider using small panels of colour, overlaid, or built into a feature wall. Whether static, or able to move in the wind, these decorative panels can be used to highlight and support a dramatic setting, or to create that amazing backdrop for a water feature or beyond. These dramatic backdrops are often in high demand in education or commercial areas where people expect calm, interesting features that draw the eye and are memorable. It’s less common to see them outside factories.
* Brand your building, your way. Even if you’re using simple corrugated steel, branding it in your company’s colours will allow you to make a statement that won’t be ignored. Whether you’ve got bold colours or more subtle ones, nothing makes a building more memorable than standing out from its surroundings in an understandable and obvious way.
* Consider using steel cladding in an art installation in your foyer. Even if it’s just from ‘left over’ pieces from your installation internally or externally, making a piece of art that is unique to your company from steel cladding is often an amazing way to create a discussion piece that sticks with your visitors, long after they leave. This legacy and recycling ethic shows a level of dedication in your company that many others may not exhibit, but also speaks of strength and beauty, which are treasured in most companies in today’s world of shallow connections
* Consider making a statement – whether it’s a splash of colour in an otherwise dull wall, or an interesting design made from pieces organised in an unexpected way, or a texture application on your walls or ceiling, you’ll find that steel cladding is one of the most versatile materials you can use. End users will find it a pleasure to work with, while designers should consider it an important tool in their arsenal
Creativity is one of the watchwords when looking for unusual ways to use coated steel – so if you’re interested in creating an installation, or using cladding in unusual or ground-breaking ways, consider discussing it with an architect, designer or pick up a pencil and sketch it through – you might be amazed at the originality that steel cladding lends itself to.
