Discover one of the sensations of 2011 – book Jamie Woon tickets today!

The British singer-songwriter Jamie Woon is one of the coming year’s most exciting prospects. Woon, who hails from Clapton in North-East London, has a distinctive sound which has been described as a blend of alternative rock and soul, with his own interpretation of different genres. Indeed, he has described it himself as groove-based, vocal-led R&B. His music has an incredibly diverse range of influences, from Santana and Jeff Buckley to MeshellNdegeocello.

Woon is the son of Celtic folk singer and backing artist Mae McKenna, and was born and raised in New Malden in the Kingston upon Thames area of Greater London. He later attended the BRIT School, graduating the year behind Amy Winehouse, who he went on to support live.

Now signed to Polydor, the 28-year old released the independent Wayfaring Stranger EP in early 2007 before his 2010 single Night Air led to widespread acclaim. He was placed in fourth in the BBC’s Sound of 2011 poll.

Woon’s debut album, Mirrorwriting, is set for an 18th April 2011 release on Polydor, and has a series of dates planned to promote it throughout May and June, covering such UK cities as Manchester, Leeds, Bournemouth, Sheffield, Birmingham, Bristol and London. Woon has also assembled a full band to join him in his concerts.

All of this means that there’s never been a better time to discover, or indeed re-discover, one of the music world’s most up-and-coming talents.
